Located in Hamilton County, Noblesville serves as the county seat. It’s considered a suburb of Indianapolis, and is found along the northern side of that city along the White River. Currently, Noblesville is home to more than 65,000 people.
William Conner and Josiah Polk are credited with establishing what would become Noblesville. With the first construction taking place in 1818, the downtown area for the community was laid out by 1823. Noblesville became the county seat in 1824 and was incorporated in 1851.
There are two suggested origins for the name of the city. One states that it was named for James Noble, who served as one of the first two senators representing Indiana. Another legend holds that the city was named for Lavina Noble, a resident of Indianapolis who was engaged to Josiah Polk.
Today, Noblesville is home to a number of recreational facilities, including seven public and private golf courses. The park system maintains multiple facilities that provide space for sporting and other outdoor activities. One of the highlights of the city is the Ruoff Music Center, an outdoor music venue.
